Self-described 'Native Republican' due back in court

“I’m in the front where do you think I am,” Jorge Riley wrote on social media from inside the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

It’s been a LONG time since we’ve heard from Jorge Riley, the self-described “French-speaking Native American Messianic Jewish right-wing conservative Republican.”

This Donald Trump supporter first landed on Pretendian Country Today’s radar for his role in the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. He’s facing a slew of federal charges for taking part in the attack —which he gleefully documented on social media on the day of the riot.

“Hey We’re storming the Capitol…. what are you doing?” Riley wrote from inside the building, where five people lost their lives as Trump supporters tried to stop the U.S. Congress from certifying the election that the Republican candidate lost.

It’s been more than 20 months since the incident, for which more than 870 people have been charged. According to the Department of Justice, nearly half of the defendants have admitted guilt for their roles in the insurrection, entering pleas for a wide range of crimes — many of them violent in nature. At least $2.7 million in damages and losses have been incurred in the attack on American democracy.

Yet Riley, whose claims of being Native are contested by those closest to him, is not among those who have accepted responsibility. Nearly two years later, his case is still burdening the taxpayer-funded justice system, largely due to his own actions.

At one of his status hearings in April, for instance, Riley’s attorney informed the court that he was in the process of being fired, just as the parties were getting ready to move the case forward by setting a trial date.
